Sometimes, resting is necessary. Not everything has to be rushed but there is a point where slowing down turns into something else. You keep postponing tasks and before you know it, nothing gets done and that’s the mañana habit.
“Mañana” could also sound like “mamaya na” and it seems comforting. You tell yourself you will get to it later. No stress, no pressure but when you keep pushing things off for tomorrow until tasks start to pile up then deadlines get closer so after that you end up feeling busy without actually being productive.
How can we balance this daily?
Most of the time, it is not laziness. You are either tired, overwhelmed, or just not in the mood to start and starting is usually the hardest part.
One way to deal with this is to make things feel smaller.
Using tools like Pomodoro Timer helps you to be productive even for short bursts. You work for a set time, take a break, then go again. It feels less heavy because you are not thinking about the whole task, just the next 20 or 30 minutes.
Tell yourself, “If I finish this now, I can relax later.” Maybe that means watching a show, going out for a ride, or just doing nothing without guilt. You are not removing the things you enjoy. You are earning them.
Distractions Are Another Problem
It is easy to open your phone for a quick scroll, then lose an hour on TikTok or Instagram. What should take 30 minutes suddenly takes three. Reducing screen time even a little can make a big difference.
Where You Work Matters Too
At home, it is easy to delay things. Your bed is there, your phone is there and no one is really watching. But in a coworking space, it feels different. People around you are working, and you naturally want to stay focused too.
The mañana habit is hard to break but once you notice it, you can start doing something about it. Start small, stay consistent, and try to do things today, so tomorrow does not feel so heavy.
